Kevin Willett says to try and take the negatives and turn them into something you can use positively.
One of my biggest weaknesses is that I cannot accept criticism. I take it way too personally. A while ago I spoke to a group of twenty people about business networking, 19 of them loved it, and one disliked it. Of course I focused on the one person who didn’t like it. I know doing that is silly, but I simply cannot help myself. I think it is important to consider the criticism that you hear and ask yourself if you can learn from it. In some cases you can. But most of the time the person is just having a bad day and taking it out on you, so simply let it go and move on.
Also, I want you to be careful in how you give criticism. Sometimes it is super easy to be critical of others, but please select your words carefully and ask yourself ‘how would I feel if someone said this to me?’ Please understand that we are all at different levels in our career, so what might be common sense to you, may not be to others. I see this happen at networking events. Often someone may try to sell you their services right away without getting to know you. Rather than criticizing them, try to teach them how to build relationships before they try to sell their services. Most people will be grateful.
