Start at the beginning

Promoting safe driving starts right at the recruitment stage. When talking to your staff about responsible driving practises from the get-go, you are establishing a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to dangerous driving. This not only avoids dangerous behaviour but also saves your company from the possible financial consequences of accidents and injuries.

Keep in touch with your drivers

Whether it is a fleet of 10 or 100 vehicles, it is vital that business owners keep in touch with their drivers. This creates a more positive, safe and productive working environment that both your drivers and customers will appreciate. Fit their vehicles with GPS tracking devices so you know exactly where they are at any given time. It also helps them to know the best route to take, or whether there are any traffic problems expected. Consider giving them a work cellphone as well, so that they do not have to use their own to get in touch if necessary.

Fit their vehicles with dash cameras

Dashcams are becoming essential in every vehicle, but even more so in a company vehicle. If your driver is involved in an accident, you will be able to see who is at fault and take the appropriate action. It can also be used as evidence if you need to make an insurance claim, which means your vehicle insurance premium may be reduced.

By having fleet dash cameras in vehicles, you can download the footage once in a while and see how they drive, It is a way to see who needs further training and support - and who could do with a payrise!

Keep vehicles maintained

Poorly maintained vehicles are dangerous, whether it is a pushbike or an eighteen-wheeler. Make it part of your drivers’ job to check the vehicle over before using it, but also make sure that you book it in for a professional inspection regularly. Keep tires inflated to the correct pressure, make sure all the lights are working and that everything is safe and above board.

By following these tips, you will have a safe and reliable fleet of drivers, who represent your business in the best possible way.
