While the pandemic has definitely slowed down the rate at which people are going on business trips, sometimes they are unavoidable and you will have to go away. Business trips can take up a lot of your time and energy so it is important that you are as prepared as possible. By doing so, you can make the most of the time you have spare and ensure your trip is a productive one. Here are some top tips for going on a business trip that should make it that bit better.
Make the most of your travel time
There are many ways that you might travel during a business trip. It could include you driving yourself, in which case you will need to make sure you top up on gas oil and get enough rest beforehand. You might be flying somewhere, or perhaps getting a train. Whatever your method of transport, unless you are driving yourself, use this time to be productive. You could reply to emails, get your to-do list sorted and check through your itinerary for the upcoming days.
Only take a carry on bag
Where possible try to limit what you bring so that everything can fit into a carry on bag. There are a few reasons for this. A carry-on bag will make heading through the airport much easier and when you get to the other end you don’t need to spend time waiting at the luggage carousel. It also means you don’t have to worry about your case going missing and not having your essential belongings for the duration of your trip.
Remember to have down time
When you are on a business trip you will likely be attending meetings, hosting clients and going to conferences. This can mean that your other work and your emails can soon pile up. While they are important, it is vital that you have plenty of downtime too. Downtime will ensure you are refreshed and in the best state to get the most out of the trip. If you overwork yourself it will be counterproductive and you may find that you are too tired to make the most of it.
Eat healthily where you can
When you are on a business trip, the likelihood is that you will be going out for dinner every night and perhaps lunch and breakfast too. If you are staying in a hotel it can be tempting to order a full English breakfast each morning and indulge for dinner. You will probably have wine or beer and more than one course. It is a good idea to eat healthily where possible so that you are more switched on and focused. If you end up going on a lot of trips, then unhealthy eating can soon take its toll on your body too!
